One copper plate for printing calibrated scales for barometers made for James Watt, Glasgow, 1756-1757

This unfinished plate, preserved in Watt’s workshop, was made by him and used to print paper scales to go behind the glass tube and mercury column on his barometers. Watt mass-produced these barometers for sale, and this process was quicker and cheaper than engraving each barometer plate individually, as would be done with more expensive instruments.
