1 Curved stamp “I. Watt”, wooden handle.
This stamp has been preserved in James Watt's workshop since 1819, and dates from the early part of his career when he was working as a musical and scientific instrument maker in Glasgow. The stamp would have been used to mark wooden items made by Watt and the workmen he employed, which included musical instruments such as flutes.
