The photograph shows Robey making a promotional film for the Daily Herald's 'Help the Hospitals Contest'. The Daily Herald's widely advertised prize draw had a top prize of £20,000, with the proceeds from ticket sales going to English hospitals. George Robey was one of the most successful music hall stars in the country, and was known as 'The Prime Minister Of Mirth'.
