A photograph of a worker at the Royal Mint making 1938 coinage, taken in January 1938 by Saidman for the Daily Herald.

This man is working in the press room to make 2/- coins, known as florins. Florins were re-denominated as 10p from 30 August 1971. Decimal coinage became the official currency of the UK on 15 February 1971.

Two Saidman brothers, Reuben and Barnet, worked as staff photographers for the Daily Herald. Their photographs are simply stamped 'Saidman' on the reverse, making it difficult to tell which of the brothers took the photograph.
