With the end of the war against Germany in sight, Britain prepared to celebrate VE (Victory in Europe) Day. The photograph shows a factory on Commercial Road, London, busy making flags and banners for the celebration. These national flags bear the faces of the Allied war leaders - Joseph Stalin (1879-1953), Winston Churchill (1874-1965) and Franklin D Roosevelt (1882-1945).
