A photograph of a woman drying flags in a factory, taken in April 1945 by Nixon for the Daily Herald.

With the end of the war against Germany in sight, Britain prepared to celebrate VE (Victory in Europe) Day. The photograph shows a factory on Commercial Road, London, busy making flags and banners for the celebration. These national flags bear the faces of the Allied war leaders - Joseph Stalin (1879-1953), Winston Churchill (1874-1965) and Franklin D Roosevelt (1882-1945).
