With the end of the war against Germany in sight, Britain prepared to celebrate VE (Victory in Europe) Day. This young woman is wearing a number of different badges and rosettes - of uncertain origin - to celebrate. Illegal trade in such goods was common, as profiteers and criminals took advantage of wartime shortages.
