The dry plate, or gelatin process, was invented in 1871. It was much more practical than its predecessor, the wet collodion process, and was in turn succeeded by roll film. Imperial Flashlight Plates were reviewed in the 'British Journal of Photography' in February 1896 who commented on how fast the plates were.
