A Vivex colour photograph of a young couple reading at home, taken by Dr Doulas A Spencer in 1939. This photograph was originally taken as part of an advertising campaign for shoe polish. It was exhibited at the 1939 'Photography in Commerce and Industry' exhibition organised by the Institute of British Photographers.

This photograph was originally taken as part of an advertising campaign for shoe polish. It was exhibited at the 1939 'Photography in Commerce and Industry' exhibition organised by the Institute of British Photographers.

Dr Spencer invented the Vivex process in about 1929. It produced high-quality standardised colour prints from colour-separation negatives.
