Clerical aptitude test (Work Sample no. 5) assessing the ability to perform light clerical work such as sorting, filing, telephone answering, and bookkeeping, with manual and test sheets, includes large box with filing slots, file cards, test sheets, tape cassette and cassette player, made by Valpar International Corporation, Tucson, Arizona, United States, c. 1980.

This particular test, No. 5, assessed people’s ability to perform light clerical work. It was organized into six untimed exercises, lasting approximately 40 minutes total. Three exercises simulated sorting mail, alphabetical filing, and telephone answering, and three simulated bookkeeping tasks such as calculator use and accurate recording. Good performance depended on verbal and numerical aptitude, motor coordination, and finger dexterity. Additionally, the test allowed the observer to assess secondary, work-related characteristics such as the ability to follow instructions, concentration, communication skills, decision-making, and self-confidence.
