The Pathe 28mm projector was designed specifically for home use by the Pathe Company and was known as the 'KOK' after the firm's trademark, a crowing cockerel. For this projector, Pathe devised a new format; 28mm non-flammable cellulose acetate safety film. The crank handle not only moved the film but also drove a small dynamo to power the projector light source, which went out when cranking stopped - another safety feature. French patent applied for on 27 November 1891 and patented in Great Britain on 6 February 1912. Also patented in Belgium, Mexico and many other countries. Popularity of the KOK waned following the introduction of the 9.5mm and 16mm gauges in the 1920s.
