Smith 2 inch video tape splicer, 1959-1962, in a large plywood box. Used in the early years of video tape recording for Ampex Quadruplex tape. Cut and Splice editing required the tape to be "developed" at the cut point to reveal the control track pulses. Using the microscope, the control pulse spacing was maintained across the joint. Slow to use & requiring great skill, it also rendered the edited tape unavailable for re-use because of the splices in it.
