Leak Trough Line II FM tuner, 1960-1964. Mono, valve tuner fitted into rackmount panel. High quality commercial tuner with an FM multiplex output for future stereo conversion.
A decision had not nationally been made about the standard for FM stereo decoding at this time. The tuner has the Automatic Frequency Control defeat switch on the front panel, a local and distant selector for sensitivity, and an increased tuning range from 88Mhz to 108Mhz over the earlier version (88Mhz to 100Mhz). Diakon plastic is used for the fascia for the first time on this tuner, as opposed to the gold enameled steel of earlier versions. It uses 7 valves.
The first Leak Trough Line tuner was introduced in 1954 based on the BBC's collaboration with STC in developing FM broadcasting in Britain.
