BBC combined telephone and commentator's talkback box.
BPH “Bough” Phone is a combined telephone and commentator’s talkback box to be connected to Commentator Operated Outside Broadcast Equipment (COOBE).
The “Bough” phone is named after veteran broadcaster Frank Bough (1933-2020), who presented flagship sports broadcasts including Grandstand, BBC Sports Review of the Year and programmes Nationwide and Breakfast Time. This unit was used by commentators during sports outside broadcasts including Bough, Des Lynam and Harry Carpenter.
This unit would have plugged into a Commentator Operated Outside Broadcast Equipment. The standard telephone handset is built to BBC specifications and was used across a range of equipment.
