STC 4038 Ribbon Microphone (in fitted case).

This bi-directional ribbon microphone was widely used across the BBC for recording and transmission. It was designed by STC as a cheaper alternative to the BBC PGS/1 microphone, which was too costly to make commercially.

This microphone was so popular that they continue to be produced today, by Coles Electroacoustics.
