Programme Effects Generator (PEG) audio tape cassette, 1967.

The PEG system was developed by the BBC for inserting sound effects and other recorded material into radio and television programmes. It uses a length of magnetic audio tape stored in a removable cassette. The tape was spring-loaded - a similar idea to the Mellotron mechanism. Multiple cassettes could be lined up and triggered in sequence as required for a programme.
