Glensound Radio 1 Desk, early 1980s.

The Glensound desk is actually a Radio 1 Outside Broadcast desk. Dates from early 1980s and they were used for all Radio 1 DJ Outside Broadcasts. They are not a “stand alone” broadcast desk, and require another desk to feed into, where all the group outputs from the interface appear on faders. There is a small mixer that the Engineer driving the show can control the VCA levels on the DJ desk – it would sit alongside the main (Calrec) mixer. It’s quite easy to set up once you know what connects to what – impossible to set up if you don’t! This particular desk was rigged in Studio 5 and was the main DJ self Op desk for all the Radio 1, 2 and 6 Music shows that came from there. It fed into the Calrec GP, and the fader strip on the GP is labelled accordingly.
