Hand tinted colodion positive half length relief portrait of a young British soldier wearing a red coat with gold braid and two white corporal's stripes, taken by an unknown photographer about 1860. Hat resting on table.60x75mm wooden hanging frame covered with maroon paper. Hanging ring missing. Plain oval gilt mat. Pinchbeck frame. The soldier can be identified as a corporal from the two chevrons on his jacket sleeve. The badge on the shako - a plumed military hat - resting on the table next to him suggests he may have been a Coldstream Guard. He may have served in the British army during the Crimean War (1854-1856).
