Collection of documents relating to Air Raid Precautions compiled by Mr Edward Hatfield from Eccles.

Made:
circa 1918-circa 1950

7 boxes, 10 bundles and 1 envelope containing the personal papers of Mr Edward Hatfield, an employee of the Eccles Board of Education. They cover three areas; the first primarily being his involvement with the local education committee throughout the Second World War, providing information, equipment, training and materials. The second element relates to official home and war office Second World War publications. In addition to his Board of Education duties, Mr Hatfield acted as Head ARP Warden for Sector 17a, the Parrin Lane, Napier Road, Monton Mill area of Eccles, whilst his wife acted as 2nd Senior Warden. The printed matter and correspondence may just relate to these duties, but also have been used for research purposes whilst having input into the protection of the area's schools and its pupils. The third element consists of personal ephemera, including sheet music, souvenirs of national events, cards and photographs. The records suggest that in addition to being used in a Boys Brigade setting, some of the sheet music material may have also been used in his educational work. By 1942 Edward Hatfield was serving with the Royal Artillery in North Africa.

Some of the records are closed for 100 years under the terms of the Data Protection Act.
