Written on the reverse of one of the drawings is the following;
The two drawings in India Ink of the Phoenix and Soho Foundry are by the late Joseph Parry of Manchester and were made I fancy about the year 1812 but of the exact year I am not certain. they were engraved by the late John Slack of Salford an old friend of Mr and Mrs Chapman [?] and father of Miss Hariot Slack who still survives and resides at Southport, for the heading of the sheet list of Wheel Patterns an early impression of which as well as the copper plate is hanging in my Office at Soho. I believe Soho was purchased about the year 1810 the year my Father died or 1811. The Phoenix Foundry on Shude Hill, now Swan Street was closed many years ago.
