Lathe no. 1254, made by Charles Holtzapffel & Sons, London, 1822.
This lathe was made by Holtzapffel for ornamental work rather than industrial use. It has a cast iron bed set into a wooden frame, and is powered by foot-treadle. The lathe would have been used for turning wood, rather than metal. Holtzapffel kept detailed records of the sale of their machines. This lathe was originally was bought from Holtzapffel in 1877, and sold on again in 1890.
