Planing machine made by Cunliffe and Croom Ltd, Manchester, 1880-1900.

Cunliffe and Croom Ltd was an engineering company which made engineering equipment including lathes, planing and drilling machines, milling, shaping, and slotting machines, chucks, slide rests and surface plates. The company was founded in 1864 by Richard Cunliffe, who was joined by Mr Croome in 1879. Although Cunliffe and Croome Ltd gave their location as Manchester in their advertising material, they were actually based at at Broughton Iron Works on Edward Street, Broughton in nearby Salford. Broughton Iron Works was established in 1873.
