Intermediate frame, made by Platt Brothers & Co. Ltd, Oldham, 1907, and used at Roy Mill, Royton.
This machine stretched and thinned the cotton ready for spinning. Leather belts, transferring power from the mill’s steam engine, drove the machinery. By the 1920s mill owners started to use electricity supplied by new, coal fired power stations.
