Pedestal grinding machine, made by C. Churchill & Co. Ltd, Manchester, c.1901-20.

This machine was bought second-hand by Howard Engineering in 1938 and used in the manufacture of steelworks plant.

C. Churchill & Co. Ltd was an American machine tool manufacturer which imported machine tools to the UK in the late nineteenth century, before opening their own manufacturing business in Manchester in 1901. The firm moved to Pendleton in 1904 and Broadheath, Altrincham in 1919. This machine is typical of grinders produced by C. Churchill & Co. Ltd in the early twentieth century.
