Reproduction of the 1830 Planet steam locomotive, built by the Friends of the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester, 1992.

The original Planet steam locomotive was built by Robert Stephenson & Co in 1830 for the Liverpool and Manchester Railway, the first inter-urban steam railway in the world. The railway was built to boost business between the growing towns. Planet was the Liverpool and Manchester Railway's engine No.9.
