Two-cylinder ‘double diagonal’ engine, made by John Wood, Ramsbottom, 1890. Slide valve, Pickering governor, power output 5 horsepower.

This engine is typical of engines used in the textile finishing trades to drive individual machines. This engine drove a calico printing machine.

The two high-pressure cylinders at 90 degrees to each other act alternately on the flywheel, creating smooth, steady motion ideal for powering printing machinery where steady consistent motion is essential.
