Company archive of Linotype and Machinery Limited, its predecessor companies the Linotype Company Limited and the Machinery Trust Limited, and a variety of subsidiary companies responsible for manufacturing or selling composing and printing machinery or supplying consumables required by the printing trades.

The collection consists of: Articles of Association, deed and mortgage registers, minutes of various meetings, employment records, stocks and share records, customer order books, correspondence, operation and service manuals, Linotype & Machinery machine registers, typeface specimen books, trade literature and brochures, various in-house publications (L&M News, The Grapevine, Linotype Notes and The Linotype Record), a collection of bound patents for machines and resulting improvements to them registered both in the United States of America and the United Kingdom.

The collection also includes copies of documents relating to operational agreements with the Mergenthaler Linotype Company of New York.
