Sectioned F2/3 jet aircraft engine, made by the Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co. Ltd, Trafford Park, 1942-1948.
This is an example of an early British turbojet. It was made by Metropolitan Vickers at Trafford Park, Manchester, and is unique as it was used to demonstrate the layout of the Metropolitan Vickers aft fan engine (using the F3 augmentor) at the Farnborough air show for the SBAC (Society of British Aircraft Constructors) in 1948.
Though the principles of turbojet propulsion were not developed in Manchester, Manchester company Metropolitan Vickers were among the first companies turning these ideas into a reality.
