The SX was the world's most powerful large mainframe at the time of its launch in 1990 and was the successor model to the Level 80 S3L which is already at the museum. It was the mainstay of UK national and local government computing in the 1990s eg. Inland Revenue, DSS, Ministry of Defence, county and borough councils, public utilities. This computer was used by HM Customs & Excise for VAT and trade stats processing until May 2000, then shipped to UES Byley until Dec 2003 when returned to ICL Manchester stores.
