Goonhilly Satellite Station was a large telecommunications site located in Cornwall, which operated between 1962 and 2006, and at one point was the largest satellite station on in the world. Dubbed ‘Arthur’ its first satellite antenna was built in 1962 and was used as part of the first live transatlantic television broadcasts from the United States via the Telstar satellite on 11 July 1962. ‘Arthur’ itself was the world's first open parabolic shaped satellite dish.
