Prototype of the CRONOS/ECCE1 robot

Prototype of the CRONOS/ECCE1 robot, an exploration of how to build an anthropomimetic robot, with wood coccyx support and three 3½” x No. 12 gauge steel countersunk woodscrews, by Rob Knight with the ECCEROBOT group, France, 2004-2005

Pieced together with scrap wood, wire and elastic, this prototype was a design study for CRONOS, one of the first robots built to mimic human body structure. Roboticists Owen Holland and Rob Knight created the test model by studying drawings from renowned medical textbooks such as Gray’s Anatomy and experimenting with many different materials.
