Stereoscopic portrait daguerreotype of Jean Bernard Léon Foucault (1819 - 1868).
Foucault was a physicist known for his demonstration of the Foucault pendulum, a device demonstrating the effect of the Earth's rotation. He also made an early measurement of the speed of light and discovered eddy currents. Foucault also took the first daguerreotype of the sun in 1845. He worked with Duboscq, who took this stereo daguerreotype, and with Fizeau.
