Black figure eye cylix, Boestian, 451-400BC
Some cultures believed that bad spirits in the form of the ‘Evil Eye’ could inflict disaster and disease, or even death. This ceramic cylix or drinking cup has eyes painted on to the side to protect from the evil eye. It was made in a region of ancient Greece called Boeotia.
