Cunliffe and Croom hand planing machine

Small planing machine, moving table, uprights to hold tool host. Hand operated: turned by four armed wheel. Mounted on a stand to bring it up to working height.

Manufacturer unknown

Cunliffe and Croom was a Manchester machine tool company founded around 1864. This planer was hand-powered, which made it portable. As with powered planing machines, the table moves back and forth while the cutting tool stays still. The operator turns a handle on the side of the machine to move the table. The planer was used by an engineering company in Darwen, Lancashire.
