Watch with an early form of striking by an unknown maker, Germany. c. 1600. Circular case, re-gilded. Edge sharply curved, back and covers domed. All pierced and chiselled. Pendant replaced. Gilt 24-hour dial (I-XII Roman, 13-24 Arabic) with central sun. Hand replaced. Movement with verge escapement, and an early form of striking with stackfreed. Brass plates with steel wheels, and no spring barrels. The balance, balance-spring and balance cock are all later. The stackfreed spring has also been replaced. Clockmakers' Museum No. 4
