Silver pair cased watch by Daniel Carre, France, c.1670 The outer case is made of oxidised iron and studded with silver. The inner case is plain silver. The dial is silver gilt and engraved, with three silver sub-dials. The lower shows the time with a single iron hand. Within this is an aperture which displays the day of the week. The upper left dial shows the day of the month, and the upper right the age of the moon. Within this is an aperture which shows the phase of the moon. Between the top two dials is an aperture which displays the months. Movement with verge escapement, a train of three wheels, fusee with gutline, worm-and-wheel set up, balance with later spring and balance cock with oval shaped foot, screwed to backplate. Signed 'Daniel Carre' on the backplate.
