Silver square-shaped watch by Francis Raynsford, London, c.1700. Silver case covered in leather studded with silver pins, which form a monogram or cypher on the rear of the case. Square champlevé dial, with subsidiary seconds dial. Steel hands. Movement with verge escapement, and a stop lever which engages with the escape-wheel, and is operated through the dial. Signed ‘Fr. Raynsford, London’ on the movement.
Raynsford was made a Freeman of the Clockmakers' Company in 1689. Clockmakers' Museum No. 104
