Gold pair-cased repeating watch by Benjamin Grey, London, 1730. Gold outer case with a repoussé head of Apollo, and fitted with a watch glass. The bezel and glass of the inner plain gold case has been removed so that it will fit (very tightly) into the outer case. Both cases with London hallmarks for 1730. White enamel dial with steel hour hand (minute missing) and winding through the dial. Movement with verge escapement and diamond endstone and silver rim cap. Dumb repeater with one hammer. Signed on the movement ‘Benjamin Gray London r.s.c.’. Presented by Benjamin Grey's grandson, Benjamin Lewis Vulliamy to the collection of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers in 1830.
