Automaton watch by Jean Robert Soret, Geneva, Switzerland, hallmarked 1812-13. Engine-turned gold case. The dial is enamelled with a lake scene, with a foreground applied in four-colour gold, with automaton figures on a see-saw. Two gold cherubs strike bells against a black enamel background at the top of the dial. The time is indicated on a very small white enamel dial in the centre. Verge escapement movement with quarter repeating work, which moves the figures on the dial. Bridge-type cock, with coqueret. Also with oil sinks. Signed on the movement 'Jn. Robert Soret à Genève. 33411'. Presented by John W. Carter to the museum of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers in 1899. Clockmakers' Museum No. 291.
