Silver pair-cased watch by Brockbanks, London, hallmarked 1790 – 1. Plain silver outer and inner cases. Inserted inside the outer case are a number of paper scraps with dated watch rates listed on them. White enamel dial with gold central minute hand and subsidiary dials for hours and seconds. Movement with spring detent escapement with helical spring, now much altered. Three-arm compensation balance with wedge weights. Movement signed 'Brockbanks London No. 3137'.
Brockbanks was a firm composed of John Brockbank, a Freeman of the Clockmakers' Company 1769, and his brother Myles, a Freeman 1776 (died 1821). The watch was bequeathed by Samuel Atkins (of the firm Brockbanks & Atkins), to the museum of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers in 1898. Clockmakers' Museum No. 425
