Striking chamber clock by an unknown maker, Germany, 1575-1600. Steel case with four moulded corner uprights set at an angle. Fixed dial plate; back and side plates removable. Pierced steel balustrade round the top. Four-arm support for bell. Hour circle engraved on plain steel plate with central sun. Plain steel alarm setting ring to centre of dial. Steel arrow hand. Spring driven. Originally with verge escapement and balance, but later replaced with brass wheels and pendulum. The steel wheels of the striking train are original. Alarm train at right angles, also original.
Formed part of the collection of the Reverend Henry Nelthropp, later donated by Nelthropp to the museum of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers. Clockmakers' Museum No. 583
