Large watch displaying both mean solar and sidereal time, in a guilloché enamel case by George Margetts, London, c.1790. Also with a mahogony travel case with ivory escutcheon and aperture on lid to reveal the watch dial underneath. Inside the case is a square green silk cushion. Watch with engraved gilt-metal case, the back of which is engine-turned and covered in translucent blue enamel. An ivy leaf wreath, a ring of stars and a central pattern are in gold in the enamel. The white enamel dial is signed 'Geo. Margetts London', and has three subsidiary dials, each with a domed white enamel centre. The outer rings of each subsidiary dial indicate mean time, whilst the domed centres indicate sidereal time; top left displays the hours; top right displays minutes; and bottom centre displays seconds. Engraved full plate movement with cylinder escapement. The engraved balance cock has a regulator dial and a diamond endstone. Signed on the movement 'Geo. Margetts London 1098'.
