Spring driven, striking table clock with quarter chiming by William Speakman, London, c.1695. Ebonised case with gilt brass basket-top. Square brass dial with matted centre, applied silvered chapter-ring surrounded by cherub spandrels, mock pendulum and date aperture. Signed 'W Speakman, London' at base of chapter ring. Blued steel hands. Fusee movement of 8 day duration, verge escapement with short pendulum. Rack striking, formerly with a pull-repeat on six bells, now converted to quarter-chiming.

Speakman became a free Clockmaker in 1661, Master in 1701. Clockmakers' Museum No. 1073
