Edward East was born at Southill, Bedfordshire in 1602. He was apprenticed to Richard Rogers in the Goldsmiths’ Company in 1618 and freed in 1626. He became a successful clock and watchmaker and may have been involved in banking. He was elected an Assistant at the formation of the Clockmakers’ Company in 1631 and served as Master in 1645 and 1653. He died c.1697 aged 95. Bequeathed by David N. Tappenden to the Clockmakers' Charity, 2003. Clockmakers' Museum No. 1261
