Reference card for attendants uniform

Made:
1929

Standard pattern reference card for Science Museum attendants regalia, Standard Working Pattern 1, Pattern No OS 625, Crown, G.M. gilt with pin, for collars, approved 16 January 1929, unsigned, United Kingdom, 1929

Until 1987 the Museum’s security staff, called ‘warders’, continued to wear a uniform recalling their nineteenth-century origin as policemen.

This reference card provided the design template for the manufacture of regalia for Science Museum security staff uniform. The badges and other regalia had different designs depending on the grade of warder to make each more readily recognisable. This particular pattern was the template for museum attendants to wear a gold crown on their collars.
