Oil on canvas portrait of Francois Justin Vulliamy (1712 – 1797).

Vulliamy was born in the Pays de Vaud, Switzerland. He came to England via Paris c.1730. He went into partnership with the Royal Watchmaker Benjamin Gray in 1743. In 1756 he married Gray’s daughter, Mary. Vulliamy remained true to his roots, and founded the Swiss Church in London, serving as its President until his death. This portrait was bequeathed to the Museum by his grandson Benjamin Lewis Vulliamy in 1854.
