Hitachi full scale mock up of the driving cab of a class 800/801 (IEP) train

Before being donated to the museum, this one-of-a-kind cab mock-up was based at Hitachi Rail Europe’s London depot where it was used for training purposes.

HRE is supplying 122 new intercity trains for passengers using the East Coast and Great Western main lines under the Department for Transport's Intercity Express Programme (IEP) and the first of the new trains came into service in autumn 2017.

The bullet-train-inspired fleet harnesses similar technology used on Japanese Shinkansen trains. Compared with the Intercity 125 and 225 High Speed Trains which are still in passenger service, the new Hitachi IEP has an almost futuristic look and demonstrates the advances in rail technology over the last 40 years.
