Gramophone record, double-sided, 12 inch, 78 rpm, His Master’s Voice, catalogue number C.1329, Ernest Lough and the Choir of the Temple Church, London, ‘Hear My Prayer’ and ‘Oh, for the Wings of a Dove’, made by the Gramophone Co Ltd, British, 1925-1935

Recorded in Temple Church in London on 5 April 1927, using the Gramophone Company’s mobile recording unit. The soloist was 15-year-old Ernest Lough. The recording’s quality was impressive for the time, especially because it was made inside a church and not in a recording studio. The recording sold well over many years, and in 1962 the millionth copy was sold.
