United Press International photograph titled 'The art of making love...by a husband...'. Caption on back reads: Shepperton, Middlesex: When it comes to the art of making love, husbands can show their wives a thing or two, as is proved by this informal sequence showing Sir Laurence Olivier directing his wife, actress Joan Plowright, in a scene from the film "The Three Sisters", at Shepperton Studios, Middlesex recently. In the film, Miss Plowright plays Masha, the married sister, in Olivier's screen version of the Chekhov play, which features the National Theatre Company and Alan bates as her Army officer lover Vershinin. Sir Laurence too has a small part in the film, that of an Army doctor Chebutikin, which does not encroach too much on his main job of directing. Sir Laurence is on record as saying that he gets most satisfaction out of directing films, and judging by his embrace with Joan, one understand why.

Two circular diapositive photographs of the full Moon mounted in passe partout frames, originally for use in a large stereoscope using prism which was disposed of in 1958 (BOS 2/4/58). Taken by Warren De La Rue [1858-1868] through a 13-inch reflecting telescope with a speculum mirror and using wet collodion plates. The instrument was carried on a German type clock-driven equatorial mounting housed in his observatory at Cranford, Middlesex.
