People with Large Petition in Support of Equal Pay for Women

The caption reads “Civil Service Petition on Equal Pay Arrives At House. March 8th 1954. Tied in massive bundles, a petition in support of equal pay for women organised by the main Civil Service staff organisations arrives at the St. Stephen’s Entrance of the House of Commons, London, to-day (Monday). It will be presented to Parliament tomorrow by Mr T. C. Pannell, Labour Member of Parliament for Leeds, West. A few minutes earlier, a similar petition organised by the Equal Pay Campaign Committee had arrived to be presented to Parliament tomorrow by Miss Irene Ward, Conservative MP for Tynemouth.” The photograph was taken by a Daily Herald staff photographer.
